Versilia: a region worth exploring, with plenty of activities to enjoy and places to see
Versilia, right on your doorstep
You don’t need to plan every moment. All you have to do is step outside to find yourself in the midst of something that changes as the day goes on. You can stay by the sea or travel just a few kilometers and enjoy a completely different setting. There’s always something happening around here: you just have to decide where to go.
The sea, different every day
Just a few minutes away and, before you know it, you're on the seafront, with the wide sandy beach and the sea stretching out before you. Days unfold naturally here: a swim, a break beneath a beach umbrella, a return to the hotel, then back out again. The gently shelving waters and well-equipped beach clubs make every moment by the sea easy to enjoy. In the morning, the atmosphere is especially relaxed, with the beach slowly coming to life and time seeming to drift by a little more slowly.
As the day unfolds, the beach comes to life with open umbrellas and the familiar rhythm of summer. Towards evening, you find yourself returning, even if only for a walk, as the light softens and Lido slips into a different pace. Some stay for hours, others come and go throughout the day, each following their own rhythm. Either way, the sea remains a constant presence throughout your holiday in Versilia.
Post-sea hours
Your day isn't over when you leave the beach. It just changes direction. You head back, get ready, then head out again. And outside, the Lido has already taken on a new look. The promenade fills up, the lights come on one by one, people move about, meet up, and stop. With shops, markets, events, and shows, every evening feels different. You can stop for an aperitif, keep walking without a specific destination, or just stay and watch what’s happening around you. And as you move, something is always happening.
A few minutes away, a whole new world
Everything changes as soon as you get a little further.
Viareggio makes an immediate impression with its constant bustle and lively promenade.
Forte dei Marmi slows the pace, with its boutiques, bars, and a more refined atmosphere.
Pietrasanta, on the other hand, is full of surprises like its squares and art installations that blend seamlessly into the landscape.
Each place has its own unique character, and they’re all easy to reach:
- Viareggio – about 5 km → by car, bike, or bus
- Forte dei Marmi – about 8 km → also perfect by bike
- Pietrasanta – about 6 km → by car or bus
You can choose which one to visit each day, depending on what you feel like doing.
A day somewhere else
Here, you’re free to choose any kind of holiday. Leave the coast whenever you like and enjoy something completely different. The roads lead to Lucca, intimate and elegant. To Pisa, more open and immediate. Or as far as Florence, where it's easy to fill a day.
If you're looking for a different kind of landscape, the Cinque Terre offer a striking contrast, where sea and hiking trails meet on dramatic cliffsides.
Everything is easy to reach:
- Lucca – about 30 km → by car or train
- Pisa – about 25 km → by car or train
- Florence – about 100 km → by car or train
- Cinque Terre – about 90 km → by car or train
You set off, change scenery, then return. Without having to rethink your entire stay.
Another dimension
Leave the coast behind, take a short drive, and you’ll quickly reach rolling hills, quiet roads, and trails that invite you to slow down and take it easy. It doesn’t take much: just pick a direction and get going.
The Via Francigena crosses these areas, allowing you to walk along a historic route surrounded by nature. Further on, Lake Massaciuccoli offers a more open landscape, completely changing the perspective.
- Camaiore Hills – nature trails → just a few minutes away
- Via Francigena – easy-to-access sections, historic trails → nearby
- Lake Massaciuccoli – about 15 km → easy to reach by car or bike
It’s a different way to experience the area, rounding out your holiday in Versilia.
